Sailor Moon

Never really watched Sailor Moon back in the 90's, which turned out to be a great regret. Me and my hubbie are currently plowing through all 200 episodes (think we're on 176 or something right now) and I've been eating up all the prejudice I've held for this show several times over. It's really great! And it's actually due to Sailor Moon fan girls from tumblr that I gave it a shot at all.
Girls who grew up with Sailor Moon and who now as adults were explaining why it meant so much to them. I felt kind of moved and I wanted to see what the deal was myself.

I think why I didn't like it as a kid was because I didn't like girly things. Or rather, I thought it was uncool to like girly things, and I wanted to be perceived as cool, even though I kind of secretely liked girly things. Whenever I zapped through channels and Sailor Moon happened to be on I felt very ambivalent. One part of me loved the anime style (back then manga and anime was rare to come by, in Sweden at least) but another part couldn't stand the sillyness and girlyness of it. I hated Usagi (or Annie, as she was called in the swedish version) because she was silly, clumsy, irresponsible, and often made a fool of herself.
When watching it now, that is why I adore her.

I could rant on about my newfound feelings for this show, but for now I'll leave it at this (this is turning out to be pretty long anyways) Moonies: I was wrong, you were right. Sailor Moon is awesome!
